Molybdenum-copper deposit of Shele boran is located in East-Azerbaidjan province, northeast of Ahar. The oldest rocks in the area are Paleocene-Eocene andesitic-dacitic units that cut by Oligocene sub-volcanic intrusions. Quartz-sulfide, quartz-oxide, and sulfide vein-veinlets were developed within the porphyry bodies that exhibit typical stockwork texture. Three types of hydrothermal hypogene alteration are developed potassic, phyllic and propylitic in these bodies. The Oligocene intrusive bodies range from granite porphyry, tonalite porphyry to micro-diorite in compositions. The major constituent minerals include plagioclase, alkali-feldspar, quartz, biotite and hornblende accompanied by minor amounts of clinopyroxene, apatite, sphene and zircon. The common texture in this rocks is granular porphyry to porphyroid, and porphyritic texture is also seen in them. The parent magmas of these bodies are high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite that show positive anomalies of LILE with high ratio of LREE/HREE. These bodies were emplaced in a post-collision volcanic arc and an active continental margin setting.
